Living in Durango

One of the 32 federal entities of Mexico, Durango is often referred to as 'the movie land'. The state is situated in the northwestern part of Mexico and has a total population of just over 1,600,000. Although that sounds like an extremely high number, it's actually the second lowest in terms of population density in Mexico. The capital city of Durango goes by the same name, and has some amazing places to visit and experience; The Palacio de Gobierno, for example, has voussoir arches, padded support columns and 18th century architecture. The city’s cathedral is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the whole of Mexico, and is another good place to visit if you want to get a first impression of Durango. If you are struggling with living in Durango as an expatriate, the InterNations website offers various features such as forums, discussion boards and the Expat Magazine that could make your life abroad a little bit easier.

Moving to Durango

A lot of people move to Durango to experience the warmer climates. In the winter months, Durango's lowest average temperature is around 21 degrees Celsius. However, if you don't think you can take the heat, you shouldn't worry too much. There is an adequate amount of rainfall and moisture in the air to make the heat bearable. And a warm climate is not all that the city can offer expats moving to Durango. More than one million people visit the city every year for the month-long, annual festival Feria Nacional De Durango. Considered to be the most important festival of the city, state and the country, it has been taking place since 1929. If you're thinking of moving to Durango, but first need to get some information from like-minded expatriates about moving abroad, then you can visit the members-only InterNations forums to put your mind at ease by talking to fellow expats living in Durango or Mexico in general.
