The Cafe 78 inside of The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit/MOCAD, a non-collecting contemporary art museum located in Detroit's cultural center, will be the location for our next get-together.
The mission of the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit is to present art at the forefront of contemporary culture. As a non-collecting institution, MOCAD is responsive to the cultural content of our time, fueling crucial dialogue, collaboration, and public engagement.
It is housed in a 22,000-square-foot building, a converted former auto dealership designed by architect Andrew Zago.
The Cafe 78 recalls the dealers' "Rule of 78s" to calculate interest.
Designed by Daniel Moskop of Dan Huffman Architecture, the 4,800-square-foot space features a 14-foot bar, a big mingling space and also table seating. Plywood paneling and phenolic coated plywood add warmth to the industrial aesthetic of the space.
Café 78 now features SuperHappySushi by the Detroit Optimist Society, and bartenders trained at both Wright & Company and The Sugar House will serve a selection of beers, wines, and craft cocktails inspired by artwork in the Museum.

The Kitchen will be open until 20:00, the bar will have their last call at 21:45.

Parking is free in the adjacent MOCAD lot off Garfield Street.
