HISTORY OF THE LOPAPEYSA
Surprisingly enough, it only dates back to the 1950’s with influence from Scandinavia and Greenland. It soon gained widespread popularity and made a lasting impression in Icelandic imagery. The sweater received a resurgence in popularity after the economic crisis in 2008, becoming something of a national symbol in the movement to restore national identity and boost morale.
