The Lantern Festival marks the first full moon of the new lunar year and the end of festivities. It aims to promote reconciliation, peace and forgiveness. During the festival, houses are festooned with colourful lanterns and eating "tangyuan" symbolizing wholeness and togetherness of families expressing their best wishes. These "tangyuan" ball-shaped dumplings are made of glutinous rice flour and are stuffed with different fillings: white or brown sugar, sesame seeds, peanuts, walnuts, rose petals, bean or jujube paste or a combination of ingredients. They are usually sweet and can be boiled, fried, or steamed, and are customarily served in fermented rice soup, called "tianjiu"-sweet liquor.
