Choosing the right place to live (Frankfurt)

Hi everyone,

I am looking for somewhere to live having moved out to the Frankfurt area for a job in Alzenau - out to the east of the city, about 30km away I estimate.

Many of my new colleagues live in the small towns/villages out to that side of the city. However, I would rather live somewhere closer to - or at least with better travel links - to Frankfurt itself.

I have considered living in Frankfurt, but I am concerned that the cost of the commute - I do not have a car - would be too high.

I then thought of Offenbach, but most things I've seen and read about the city suggest that it's not the best place in general to live, with crime rates a concern.

I'll take any advice or information that can help inform a very important decision.
