Help with mobile phones please! (Frankfurt)

Hey Guys
I need some help with mobile phones. Our USA phones dont work over here so we have to start from scratch.
I have been given a SIMYO sim card but I have no idea what kind of phone it will fit! Can I just buy any "unlocked" phone?
