The American Council on Germany is seeking applications for the McCloy Fellowship in Journalism. The McCloy Fellowship provides German print, broadcast, and new-media journalists in the relatively early stages of their careers with the opportunity to travel overseas to conduct on-site research, interviews, and pursue stories of their own design. Fellows travel to the United States for up to 21 days. The fellowship proves a daily stipend in the amount of $200 per day; transatlantic airfare and pre-approved intercity travel are also covered.

Past fellows have explored issues such as immigration and integration in the United States, climate change policy, federal elections, the economic crisis, and comparative perspectives on a wide range of public policy issues from health care to education.

Journalist attached to media organizations are encouraged to apply. Freelance journalists are asked to demonstrate where resulting articles and/or related pieces could be placed. Applicants must hold German citizenship and currently reside in Germany.

TRAVEL GRANTS TO THE UNITED STATES

The American Council on Germany (ACG) is seeking applications for the McCloy Fellowships in Journalism. McCloy Fellowships provide German print, broadcast, and new-media journalists in relatively early stages of their careers with the opportunity to travel to the United States to conduct on-site research and interviews and pursue stories of their own design. Fellows receive a stipend of $200 per day for up to 21 days abroad to cover housing, meals, and local transportation. Round-trip transatlantic airfare and pre-approved inter-city travel are also covered.

Previous McCloy Fellows have investigated topics such as climate change, immigration, education, and comparative perspectives on a wide range of other policy issues. Fellows are encouraged to publish articles as a result of their fellowships, and several fellows have expanded their projects into books.

German journalists who are employed by media organizations are encouraged to apply. Freelance journalists are asked to demonstrate where resulting articles and/or related pieces could be placed. All applicants for travel to the United States must hold German citizenship and reside in Germany. Working knowledge of the English language is a prerequisite for the program. Once selected, fellows will determine an appropriate itinerary and timeframe for travel in consultation with the American Council on Germany. Travel must take place within one calendar year of receipt of the award.

To apply, please submit: a cover letter outlining your personal and professional objectives for the fellowship; a project proposal of at least two pages detailing the background and scope of your project, the general sources and institutions with whom you would like to consult while abroad, and the relevance of the project for transatlantic relations; a current CV; and two letters of recommendation (which may be in German).
