Cost of Living Guidance (Freiburg)

HI everyone!

If any of you can spare the time, I'd appreciate some insight on the actual cost of living in and around Freiburg. After going back and forth with a prospective employer at Max Planck for some time, my husband has finally received an offer for a position which would pay about Protected content net monthly. That salary, along with about Protected content for our two young children, puts us at about Protected content total income monthly. We've found some decent looking apartments outside of the city (March, Gundelfingen, etc.) for Protected content monthly. So the question is: Can a family of four live on that? I'm having a very difficult time trying to estimate the relative cost of living between St. Louis (our current home) and Freiburg. I desperately want to make this move, but am afraid we'll get over there and find ourselves totally strapped for cash. Any input from someone actually on the ground over there would be appreciated.
