Internship at FIAN International Secretariat in Geneva

The FIAN International office in Geneva is seeking an intern to assist in the preparation of the annual publication The Right to Food and Nutrition Watch. For previous issues of the RtFN Watch, please go to Protected content
The intern will assist in the following tasks:

• Editing and proofreading of articles for the Watch Protected content
• Checking facts and sources in all articles
• Cooperate in implementing a circulation and media strategy for the Watch Protected content , including different launching activities at global level with various partners
• Providing general assistance with the work of FIAN’s International Secretariat in Geneva (assist in the organization of public events, meetings with partners, etc.)

The intern should be a native English speaker and have a background in human rights work. The intern should have excellent writing skills and the ability to prepare summaries. A good knowledge of French and Spanish as well as an experience in communication work are welcome.
Unfortunately, no monetary compensation is given to interns.

The internship starts on 1 April Protected content lasts until 30 August Protected content . Full time, Monday to Friday 9am-6pm (flexible).

The FIAN International office in Geneva is seeking an intern to assist the Permanent Representative in her work within the UN human rights system.
The intern will assist in the following tasks
• Supporting follow up of advocacy work at the Human Rights Council, including preparation of statements and side events.
• Supporting advocacy work with treaty bodies, especially CESCR and CEDAW, including revision of contributions from national partners, preparation of public events and statements.
• Support communication regarding special procedures related to FIAN’s work, i.e., Special Rapporteurs on the Right to Food, water, extreme poverty and human rights, and solidarity.
• Support general communication with the OHCHR including preparation of inputs to consultations, and support of national delegations in lobby work with OHCHR officers.
• Maintain updated information on upcoming events and important developments.
• Prepare communication regarding the UN human rights system for FIAN sections and partners worldwide as well as for FIAN`s web page.

All tasks are implemented within the framework of FIAN`s mandate, including the following priorities: monitoring right to food implementation, lobby and advocacy work on cases of right to adequate food violations, gender and nutrition, peasants’ rights and extraterritorial obligations of states. Therefore the trainee should have a strong human rights background, especially with regard to economic, social and cultural rights. Knowledge of the UN human rights system is desirable.
The intern should have excellent oral and written communication skills in English or French. Spanish is highly desirable.
