Meteor Shower outing (Geneva)

Dear all,

One of our members, Roger Kalter, fond of Internations gatherings, is proposing to meet us at Signal de Bougy to look at the sky : here is his message and the event already counts on 20 guests. Do you want to join ?

"The next meteor shower is the Perseids on August 12, Protected content . After the first-quarter moon sets, around 2 a.m., meteors should be more easily visible until dawn. You may see dozens of meteors per hour. Conditions are excellent for serious Perseid observing on the peak morning of August 12. Even though the Moon is a fat waxing gibbous, it is far to the south and will set early enough to allow several hours of observing before morning twilight brightens the sky. These are the prime hours for meteor observing—possibly the best of the year! I’m especially looking forward to them because if the timing falls just right this is the year that will produce hourly Perseid counts of Protected content

Last year we had a fantastic night. We counted around 50 meteors and 10 fireballs.
We will go to Signal de Bougy, which is completely free from interfering lights and
no one to disturb us.

Monday august 11th we can meet with a picnic, but no grills are allowed in this section
( bring enough to eat and drink to last all night long), blankets, pillow or sleeping bag, your i-pod and earphones. Etc etc.

If you’ve never done this type of thing, then you will be totally blown away……to see these fireballs silently shooting across the sky, will take your breath away. Also, legend has it that if you make a wish while you observe the meteor, it can come true…..but you must observe the rules!!"

Ok it is a Monday evening, but it's August ! ;-)

Best,
Celine
