Irish Cinéma Evening & apéritif - 9th April - Ciné (Grenoble)

Hello All

We are organising a cinema evening and apéritif on Thursday the 9th of April at the Cinémathèque de Grenoble, 4 Rue Hector Berlioz (near Place Notre Dame)

The film is Good Vibrations, based on the life of Terri Hooley who founded the record label and shop "Good Vibrations" in Belfast. He managed Irish punk bands such as the Undertones during the 70s and the 80s and through music brought young people from the different communities in Northern Ireland together. For more details please see the attached PDF file.

The apéritif is from 6 o clock onwards and the film will be shown at 8 oclock, during the apéro there will be short film clips on the subject and also the chance to get together for a chat!

The entrance fee for the film is 5/6 euros and for the apéritif donations as from one euro. There will be cheddar cheese and other goodies!

Belfast, les années Protected content le conflit violent que l’on

nomme The Troubles rend la vie des jeunes compli-
quée, exigeant une radicalisation ou un départ. Mais

un rebel passionné du mouvement punk, Terri Hooley,

décide d’ouvrir un magasin de disques dans le quar-
tier le plus violent de l’Europe, qu’il nomme « Good

Vibrations ». Il découvre l’émergence de la voix de la

résistance à travers des groupes de punk de la ville

et se retrouve au centre d’un mouvement de jeunes

musiciens pour créer une alternative à la violence, une

Alternative Ulster, et redonner vie à la ville.

« Quand les gens pensent au punk, ils pensent à

quelque chose de très anarchique, nihiliste, même.

Mais dans le contexte des Troubles, le punk, c’était

une force de vie, une façon de rester en vie. Le punk

permettait à ces jeunes de penser différemment. »
