What is it like to be an expat in Guangdong? (Guangzhou)

Hi,

I am currently in Beijing, considering a job in Foshan. Where do people who work in Foshan typically live? Are there any expats in that area? What is it like to be a single (female) expat in that region? I'm concerned that I might feel isolated because, unlike Beijing and Shanghai, there don't seem to be a lot of expat organizations in Guangdong . I'm happy to make Chinese friends, but I'd like to feel that I could be part of an expat community as well. Also, how polluted is it there now?
