Beach Getaway...any ideas? (Guatemala City)

Hey I am new to Guatemala and wanted to head to the beach on the weekends. Has anyone been to Monterrico and know of good hostels/hotels to stay in? Also, I am open to suggestion on other great beaches in Guatemala and reliable/ safe transportation advice!
