Considering Early Retirement in Ecuador (Guayaquil)

I am considering moving to Ecuador. Any ideas of the best expat communities. I've heard mix reviews about safety as it is an issue anywhere. But since, I'm female and will be moving on my own, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. At the end of the day, I just need to" take the plunge" but trying to do a bit of due diligence beforehand.
