Day trips from GYE (Guayaquil)

Hi

Can anyone recommend any day trips worth doing from GYE on weekends? I would love to get out to nature and ideally take the dog but I dont know the areas too well. Has anyone done the train towards the Andes from Duran?

Not so bothered about doing beach stuff as I live at beach alot of the time so prefer something more 'land'scapey!
