Introduction and interest/possible move to Ecuador (Guayaquil)

Hi everyone, I would like to introduce myself. I'm from the U.S. in a northern small town. I'm well educated, healthy, and stable. I've taken an interest in Ecuador a few years ago and have traveled outside the U.S. to other places twice. I have never been to Ecuador, but after looking at it's environment and culture, I would like to visit as long as I can and possibly look at a long term stay.
I do prefer a quieter lifestyle, but do enjoy company of others. I come from a humble background. As far as areas in Ecuador, a relatively safer place would be nice, but understand anywhere you have to be mindful. I would need to brush up on my Spanish as I want to respect the native culture and their language.

If anyone has any recommendations, I would appreciate it.
