Taking taxis (Guayaquil)

I MUST be a rookie ;) Two posts in one morning.
I'm new to Guayaquil (temporarily living in Los Ceibos) and would like to begin getting around. From all I've read online, I'm nervous about taxis but it seems like the best way. I'm hoping to get a little advice on this. I don't speak any Spanish yet. *sigh*
