Below is a brief description for each charity that will benefit from this event:
1) The Clic Sargent Charity for children with cancer. This charity was the result of a merger in Protected content two charities, namely CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia In Children) and Sargent Cancer Care for Children (children’s cancer charity). ‘CLIC’ was founded by Bob Woodward in Protected content the death of his young son. ‘Sargent’ was founded by the secretary of the musician and conductor Sir Malcolm Sargent in his memory.

2) Pimlico Puffins Swimming Charity (Swimming Club for the disabled of all ages in Westminster and further afield). This charity was started by a Westminster Rotarian and his wife nearly thirty years ago to provide a weekly swimming club for people, young and old, with disabilities. They meet for swimming sessions every Monday evening at the Queen Mother Sports Centre in Pimlico. The trained helpers and volunteers assist the participants in getting the most benefit possible from exercise and freedom of movement in the water. The Paddington Rotary Club, along with the other three Westminster Rotary Clubs, has been supporting this charity for many years and part funds the annual swimming gala event held in October.

3) The Shelter Box Foundation. This charity provides special ‘shelter’ boxes. Each large ‘box’ contains tents, cooking utensils, blankets and water filters, as well as most other equipment necessary for an emergency existence. We have provided a large number over the years to disaster areas such as the Tsunami hit regions of South East Asia, the earthquake in Haiti, the floods in New Orleans and Pakistan as well as to refugee camps in Kenya, Niger and the Sudan. With the planet becoming ever more prone to “natural disasters”, this Rotary International charity is equally becoming ever more important; just close your eyes and try to imagine that when you open them, not only do have no more possessions, but several loved ones are missing…..
