Exceptions to Cuban Visa categories for Brits? (Havana)

The visa categories for British Citizens in Cuba are really restrictive. Does anyone know of Brits who have managed to get year-long visas for Cuba who didn't get an invitation from a Business/Government? I am a freelancer and do not need to rely upon the Cuban economy for my work.
