Do any Finnish banks NOT charge monthly fees? (Helsinki)

Can anyone explain to me why banks charge us monthly fees for the privilege of making a profit off the money we deposit with them?

I'd like to find a Finnish bank or credit union-equivalent which allows internet banking, issues a Visa Electron card, and allows access to national ATM networks (like Otto) all for free...or in return for a minimum balance/total relationship balance.

In the US, I us a credit union in which there are NO monthly fees and yet they issue a Visa Debit card linked to a checking and savings account with no min balance, and have internet banking with bill pay and online transfers. All that with 150,000 members. So why can't Sampo, OP, Nordea offer the same???

Do credit unions or internet-only banks exist in Finland?

thanks for your input.
