Just moved to Houston, looking for apartment

Hi,

My name is Alex, I have just moved to Houston from Mexico City. At the moment I am living in a temporary accomodation, but need to find an apartment to rent pretty fast. I used to livein the Uk and I quite loved the multi-cultural experience. I wonder if someone could help me with some advice. I am Mexican, but I would like to meet people from other countries. Again, I want to meet Americans, but also other peoples. I wonder if there are areas in Houston where expats concentrate. I am planning to rent a place maybe outside the loop, so it not too costly. I work in the energy corridor, so would be more on the wets side of the city. Ah! and something I would like is to find a comunitty where yuou can see people in the street, you know some comunity life. Finally, just rest to say I am single, so I would like a place that is not only full of families.
Any advise will be much appreciated.
