Ikamet issues... (Istanbul)

Could really use your advice on this one... I work in a Turkish company and have both residence permit and work visa. Last year when it was issued police told me the same stamp (calisma) also is valid as residence permit. Now my company is applying for work visa renewal and i was told I need to do separate appointment to arrange my residence permit. Does the work visa renewal also works for the residence permit or i should do the residence permit separately?
