Residency Permit Question! Student to Tourist (Istanbul)

Hi helpful people! So I came here originally as a student and have a Student's Residency Permit that expires in late September. I'd like to renew my permit, but I am not a student any longer. Does anyone know if I will be able to renew the permit, just classify it as a tourist residency permit at my local police station, or if I will need to get a new permit entirely?
