Travel between Istanbul and Cyprus?

Hello fellow InterNationers!

I am planning a trip to Turkey and Cyprus in August and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations or suggestions on the best way to travel between the two countries - by plane, ferry? As well as any recommendations on affordable places to stay and the best sights to see! I'd like to fill this trip with as much adventure as possible, and certainly want to visit some gorgeous beaches.... thanks!
