Avoiding import tax with a courier (Jakarta)

I need to send a cell phone via courier to my address in Indonesia. Its brand new, does that mean that I will somehow be charged tax on the 'imported product' ?
To avoid this, can I just take it out the box thus making it a second hand phone before sending?
