Dear All,

The US, British, and Australian Embassies have issued alerts on their respective nationals in view of a recent anonymous posting on a Jihadist website encouraging attacks against teachers at international schools around the world, especially in countries in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, including Indonesia, India, and Malaysia, among others. The posting does not indicate that a specific attack is being planned and there are no credible threats.

There is no direct threat to the UN. However, with the number of international personnel in Indonesia having children in international schools, a degree of personal security and alertness need to be enhanced, and to be aware of the following security practices:

1- Parents need to engage with the school to ensure it is aware of the threat and that appropriate security arrangements are in place.
2- Avoid crowds or large gatherings when traveling in public;
3- Know where you are going and have a plan of what to do in the event you encounter demonstrations or violence;
4- Identify safe areas (for example police stations, hospitals, government buildings) in your area and how to get to them quickly;
5- Be particularly careful in locations known to be frequented by expatriates- such as bars, clubs, restaurants, movie theatres and places of worships.
6- Tell co-workers or neighbours where you’re going and when you intend to return;
7- Minimize your profile while in public;
8- Always carry a mobile phone with the number of the UNDSS Duty Officer Protected content . The emergency number for the police is Protected content .

Current security postures in UN Compounds will be maintained but access controls should be strictly implemented. UNDSS has liaised with the security agencies hired to secure UN compounds to ensure that this is carried out and agency security focal points should ensure that this is implemented in their respective agencies.

UNDSS has incoming coordination meeting with the Host Government Security Focal Point, and various security interlocutors to discuss the situation and facilitate exchange of relevant information for further action. Important updates will be disseminated as obtained.
