Relocating to Kingston (Jamaica)

Fellow expats,
I could be relocating soon to Kingston together with my wife. I did some research online and most of it shows high crime, rape and robbery rate which made me hesitate a little bit, although i am highly motivated to go!
can anyone give me more details about the situation please?
