driviers license (Johannesburg)

Hi,

We will move to Johannesburg end of November. Can I use my Belgian ( European ) drivers license in order to get hold of a South African one? In case this does not work, do I need to do a full driving exam? When I was living in Singapore I only needed to do the basic theory exam.
Or do you suggest an international drivers license?
