Pets & culture shock (Kabul)

I'm moving to Kabul in Aug Protected content Arizona and plan to take my 2 dogs. Does anyone have suggestions/lessons learned about transporting their pets to Kabul that you're willing to share? I'm aware of the health requirements and my employer (who furnishes the guest house) is ok with my bringing them. The dogs are both chiuhahua mixes. I've also been told/read that Afghans do not like dogs (they prefer cats) but not sure what that might mean for me and my dogs.

I'm also new to living abroad. Does everyone experience culture shock to one degree or another? Any suggestions for making that transition smoother?
