Banking in Nepal (Kathmandu)

Hi All!
Just a quick question regarding banking in Nepal. I will be living in KTM for 5 months and want to avoid excessive international fees from my Australian bank when withdrawing money. I have heard ATMs in KTM only give out small amounts at one time so frequent use may be necessary. Has anyone had any experience with opening bank accounts in Nepal to avoid international charges?
