earthquake proofed homes (Kathmandu)

So I am moving to Kathmandu with my family but am frightened about the earthquake threat there. The threat is very severe and the scary part is that the city is very unprepared for a major earthquake. Does anyone know if any of the buildings are earthquake proof? Does this even exist in Kathmandu? Also, does anyone have any tips on easing my very real fear about earthquakes?
