Visiting Kiev this summer on my own (Kyiv)

Hello everybody,
I plan to visit Kiev this summer on my own as several friends advised me to visit this city. I would have a few questions for you living there: is that safe to visit the city, knowing the current situation in Ukraine ? How many days should I stay to have a good overview of the city ?
