Living in Klaipeda
Klaipeda, often referred to as ‘The Port City’, is the third largest city in Lithuania, and the largest city in the Klaipeda county. Situated on the Dane River, which leads into the Baltic Sea, its location provides the city not only with beautiful scenery, but also makes Klaipeda a busy source of shipping, largely due to the fact that it is the main ice-free port in the region. Klaipeda is a very historical city, having seen a great number of changes over the centuries as a result of occupations by various countries and with World War II and the Cold War years having a great impact on the country. Amongst the many sights which can be enjoyed by expats living in Klaipeda are the Theatre Square, in the heart of the city which provides a range of arts and entertainment options, as well as the ‘Crafts Yard’ which is a popular location in which people can learn about how goods were made as well as take part in demonstrations. And last but not least, there are also the remnants of Klaipeda Castle to discover.
