End of contract, what happens with Visa? (Kuala Lumpur)

Hi,

I have a friend (Canadian) who's working for a Malaysian company here in KL. This coming October, he will have come to an end of his 3-year contract which he will not be extending.

Question: What happens with his Visa status when he actually stops working here; eg. does it convert automaticlly into a tourist visa, does he need leaving Malaysia ASAP ect.? Reason for bringing up the question is that he's retiring and not that keen heading straight back to Canada in the winter and rather stay untill end of March Protected content .

Any help is highly appreciated.
