Inventory Project for George Town, UNESCO World Heritage Site

The 7-months inventory project involves documenting, mapping and assessing the tangible and intangible cultural heritage and assets for sustainable cultural development in World Heritage Site George Town, Penang.

The project is seeking suitably qualified candidates to fill the following positions:

1 Project Coordinator (Full-Time)

Responsibilities:
•To coordinate inventorization and cultural mapping processes under the supervision of project consultants.
•To conduct and assist literature search on existing related research
•To conduct the field work – inventory of buildings and cultural activity on selected site, when necessary.
•To plan, organize and maintain proper records of all research documents.
•To carry out documentation, data management and analysis on data collected
•To coordinate Protected content assistants, cultural surveyors and enumerators.
•To coordinate and supervise the work of assisting research assistants and enumerators.
•To budget, prepare claims and make payments pertaining to the expenditures of the project.
•To prepare draft report for the project.
•To develop working relationships with respective government and non-government agencies related to the project.
•Any other duties as assigned by the project consultants.

Qualifications & Skills:

•Interested in Cultural Heritage
•Candidates preferably possess a Bachelor degree in any of the following: Architecture, Tourism, Sociology, Development Studies, Town and Regional Planning or other related fields. Candidates interested in pursuing their Master degree in the related fields are encouraged to apply. •Candidate that does not possess a degree but have experience in related field is also encouraged to apply •Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills.
•Self-starter with initiative who can work effectively under minimal supervision. •Fluency in English. Ability to work in local languages desirable (Mandarin/ Hokkien/ BM) •Good analytical, writing and communication skills. •Good computer skills (Word/Access/ Excel/Basic Photoshop). Ability to work with GIS software is preferable.

2. Research Assistants/ Cultural Surveyors/ Field Researchers
(Part-Time position, duration- Protected content

Responsibilities:

•To conduct a preliminary survey of the research site in preparation of the research.
•To assist project coordinator and project consultations in conducting field work (enumeration, data collection documentation, filing etc)
•To conduct interview, take photographs and video for documentation.
•Any other duties as assigned by the project coordinator and consultants.

Qualifications & Skills:

•Interested in Cultural heritage
•Candidates must possess minimally a diploma in any fields or STPM certificate. (Candidates pursuing their first degree in Architecture, Tourism, Sociology, Development Studies, Town and Regional Planning or other related fields are encouraged to apply).
•Candidate that does not possess a degree but have experience in related field is also encouraged to apply
•Self-starter with initiative who can work effectively under minimal supervision.
•Team player with good observation and interview skills.
•Ability to work in two or more local languages (English/Mandarin/Hokkien/BM)
•Good computer skills (Word/Access/ Excel/Photoshop)
•Ability to start immediately
