KL for teenagers (Kuala Lumpur)

How is life for expat teenagers in KL in terms of independence, safety, friendships, sports? We are considering moving to KL and would like to understand the impact on the children. We are currently in HK, where they benefit from great safety and convenient transportation, on top of several options in terms of sports. Thank you very much for your insights.
