Moving to KL (Kuala Lumpur)

Hi all,
We're an Australian family (me, husband, 2 year old daughter, 11 week old daughter & doggy) that will be moving to KL from Singapore early next year.
I've been told that we must get a place that is guarded, whereas my husband has been told it's not necessary. We will be looking to live in ex pat areas such as Damansara Heights, Kenny Hills, Mont Kiara...
Can I get people's thoughts on this?
Also, our helper might not come with us, are there helper agencies in KL? I've tried to Google so,e but haven't come across any...
