Residency in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur)

Hello everyone. I am cuurently working in PNG and looking to relocate to Malaysia next month from Australia. I'm not too sure on what the best method is to gain residency there since I will be working overseas on monthly rotation.
Can anyone put some light on the best way to obtain residency or is ther anything else expats can use as a temperary solution.
