Thinking of moving to KL.... (Kuala Lumpur)

Dear KL Forum members...
We are considering a move to Malaysia and have been asked by the company to choose a location to be based from that covers the Asia Pacific region. Is KL a good base, how would it compare to Singapore?
As a family we have two children a boy aged 13 and a girl aged 6, is KL a good family location and is there a decent British/Western expat community? We have just spent 6 years in Dubai and we are keen to see what culture shock we might get this time.
Really appreciate any thoughts or guidance.
