Typhoid! Is is as bad as the websites make out? (Kuala Lumpur)

My wife is concerned about our 6 month old contracting typhoid from the tap water,
Her concern is during bath time ( his favorite part of the day) he may swallow water with the bug.
Can anyone shed some light on this subject?
Is it dangerous in the cities or just in the villages?
