Apparently I cannot post this in the volunteering group as this is only for Habitat for Humanity. But I often get asked about volunteering opportunities.
There is a large refugee community in KL, and the children have no access to local education provision. There are an increasing number of organically growing individual schools that are affiliated to UNHCR, but UNHCR does not have the funds or system to support.
This gap can only be met by community involvement. I've been astounded at the number of Malaysians involved in this initiative and found it a great way to meet like minded Malaysian friends as well as expand my knowledge of different cultures through the refugee community and appreciate some different perspectives to life in Malaysia. There are over Protected content schools in the city so you are bound to be able to find one in your area if you're interested. The need is huge, and everyone has something to offer!
