Cameraman/Video Journalist required - Port Harcour (Lagos)


Summary: A multi-national oil company based in Nigeria, wants to increase its visual communication activities. This includes all sorts of storytelling with a special focus on pictures and videos. A new department “Creative Development” , has been created with responsibility for all content research and editorial story creation worldwide. To help get the department off the ground, the company is looking for an experienced Cameraman/ Director of Photography with a strong and proven ability for visuals and visual storytelling. In this function, the candidate will partner with a video journalist. The team will create local audio-visual/ multimedia content in Nigeria with a special focus on its operations in the Niger Delta to support the company’s external communication activities. All technical equipment will be provided by the company. The DOP as well as the video journalist will be based in Port Harcourt on a full-time contract basis. Both will work closely with the local communication team in Nigeria and report directly to the VP Creative Development.
Responsibilities:  Plans, directs, and coordinates motion picture filming: Confers with the Video Journalist (Director) regarding interpretation of scene and desired effects.  Observes set or location and reviews drawings and other information relating to natural or artificial conditions to determine filming and lighting requirements.  Reads charts and computes ratios to determine required lighting, film, shutter angles, filter factors, camera distance, depth of field and focus, angles of view, and other variables to produce desired effects.  Ensures proper audio recording  Confers with onsite staff with regards to safety requirements  Selects cameras, accessories, equipment, and film stock, utilizing knowledge of filming techniques, filming requirements, and computations.  Surveys set or location for potential problems, observes effects of lighting, measures lighting levels, and coordinates necessary changes prior to filming.  Views film after processing and makes adjustments, as necessary, to achieve desired effects in collaboration with the video journalist (director)
 At least 5 years of television/ broadcast experience as cameraman or DOP preferably working with a major TV network in Nigeria and/or global TV network in Africa.
 Outstanding knowledge of visual storytelling as DOP for large scale documentaries for major TV networks in Nigeria or abroad
 Strong knowledge of commonly-used global TV formats, standards and technologies
 Strong team player, preferably with a multicultural experience or background
 Must be fluent in English, both verbal and written,
 Willingness to travel extensively within Nigeria Protected content
 Familiarity with the Niger Delta terrain and/or previous work experience in the Nigerian oil industry is an advantage.
