New to Lagos

Hi,
I'm in the process of moving to Lagos (should be there mid October). I know next to nothing about the place, so what information do I need to know.
My company wants me to live in a hotel - is this the right thing to do?
What about social life - all work and no play would make for a boring life.
Shopping & food?
Anything else that you think I need to know?
