Mining in Arequipa (Lima)

Hi there. I am an English and Environmental Sciences teacher here in Arequipa, where I've been living for over a year now. I have been looking to get into the mining industry here (Cerro Verde is closest); I have a BS in Environmental Sciences from the USA, and am looking for a junior or entry-level position. Currently, I do not have a carnet (working card). I have heard that this will make it difficult but where there is a will there is a way and I am very determined to find work and live here long-term (especially despite the falling prices of metals in the global economy). I am also working on my LinkdIn and have plenty of mining students I teach English to privately at night, but it seems they don't have higher up contacts who I understand are all mostly from the States or Australia or Canada. Does anyone have any advice? It is all immensely appreciated. Thank you!
