Coming to check out living in Portugal (Lisbon)

Hi:
My wife and I are coming to Portugal for 3 months to see how it would work for us to move there from USA. My wife has dual citizenship USA and Hungary. My son and his family live outside of Budapest. I plan to get a Hungary resident card so I don't think we should have any length of stay restrictions??

We will be coming first time for Nov, Dec, and Jan. We plan to stay in Lisbon for Nov - somewhere along the southern coast (Algarve region) in Dec. and then we will decide about Jan while we are there.

We are retirees living on a modest budget and this is the first time in our travels that we will be on the short end of the exchange rate. So anybody have rental suggestions? I have been checking Protected content . What is the going price during those months? Is there a train pensioners discount pass that I could get as a tourist or can that happen if we move there?

Any help we would be most appreciated.
