Need recommendation for area to stay in (Lisbon)

Dear all in Lisbon,

I will be heading to Lisbon for a few days between Christmas and New Years.

I am wondering if you could recommend an area which would be best to look for a hotel to stay in. From this area I would be looking to explore the most I can of Lisbon in the short 3 days that are there.

Please let me know which is a great area to stay in, artsy, close to all and where one would truly get a quick taste of Lisbon!
