Car inssurance? (London)

Has anyone recently arriving in UK; Applied for car insurance.

I did want to buy a cheap second considering the second hand car market is very interesting! but on the other hand I quite struggling find an inssurance at a decent price.
I've been driving for more than 10 Years but only got DVLA driving card for few month... and seems that my years of experience are considered unexisting and the quote I get rise to pretty much the price of the car itself.
