Finsbury Park and Sheperds Bush Market Area safe? (London)

I am new to London and look for a place to live, at the moment I am in a shared flat in Greenwich.
I've seen some lovely places in finsbury park and close to sheperds bush market.
But I am not quite sure if the areas are safe for a woman.. any experiences? tips?
