Marriage Visa for US expat (London)

My husband is dual US/UK citizen. we have just arrived from the US and having a terrible time understanding the marriage visa for me. Have consulted with a free advice place but they just got on the web with us and did what we had already done. Spoke to one immigration attorney who wants Protected content and says I will have to leave for Protected content after we process the visa as it is submitted? is this true?
