First Visit to LA on May 20 (Los Angeles)

I am from HK and is going to attend my master degree graduation ceremony in California State University, Fullerton. I will arrive in Los Angeles on May 20 and leaving to San Francisco on May 22 or 23. Is anyone interested in meeting up? Please let me know if you want anything from HK :) I am not sure whether I should rent a car. What do you think? I have not been to the US before, where in LA or California should I visit? Thanks!
